Top 5 Things To See And Do In Venice

by Freddy

Venice has on many occasions been refered to as the most beautiful and most romantic city in Europe. In my opinion, this is for a good reason. After my very first visit, I fell in love with the city, I got lost – as everyone does, and so will you, and now I present to you my list of the best places to see and the things to do in this very amazing city.

1. Piazza San Marco

In Venice, it’s simply known as la Piazza. But St. Mark’s Square is the largest public square here. With the numerous strategic landmarks in its environs, it used to be the most expensive piece of real estate in all of Europe.

2. Ponte di Rialto

One of only four bridges traversing the Grand Canal and constructed in 1588, the Rialto Bridge is the oldest, the most visited and thus – the most photographed bridge in Venice.

3. The Bridge of Sighs

This is one of the most historical and most beautiful bridges in town. Its architectural design is amazing and the history behind it is moving. When prisoners had received their sentences in the Doge’s palace on the left, sighs would be heard as they crossed that bridge to their prison cells on the right. Hence the name – Bridge of Sighs!

4. The Doge’s Palace

A view into the Doge’s Palace walkway with the 98.6m St. Mark’s Campanile Tower in the front.

5. The Venice Waterfront

The city’s most lively and most vibrant waterfront promenade. Built in the 9th century, it leads from the Doge’s palace to the Arsenal but almost always jammed with tourists. The small market stalls that line it are a great consolation.
